The spectacular Currumbin Beachfront played host to the 20km Women’s Race Walk this morning on the Gold Coast in Australia. (9.15am / 12.15am BST)
25 year old Erika Kelly made her Commonwealth Games debut and finished in the Top 10.
The Manx Harp player, who is partially sighted, crossed the finish line to huge cheers from the crowds and completed the race in a time of 1hour, 47min, 29sec. It earned her 9th place.
An emotional Erika Kelly was spurred on by a large contingent from the Isle of Man, waving the Manx Flags along the route, again in searing heat.
There was drama in the event as Australia’s Claire Tallent who was leading at one point, was given her third ‘red card’ and disqualified – she was second at the time.
