DHSC publishes answers to most-asked prescription questions

Thu, 17 Aug 2017

The Island's health bosses have published the answers to the most commonly-asked question about planned changes to the prescription service.

The Department of Health and Social Care is currently holding a public consultation on proposals which include increasing the cost of prescription charges and ending free items for a number of groups, including pensioners under 75 years old and those with chronic illnesses.

The answers include clarification that contraception will remain free under planned changes, while prescriptions for those under 16 will still be free.

The FAQs document, which is available on the Government's website, also includes details on how to reply to the consultation and how the plans will be passed through Tynwald.

The publication also confirms the Cabinet Office is working on a means testing system, but warns it is a complex piece of work that will take time to prepare.
