Mixed Leagues

League 1

Citywing Vikings A 8 Microgaming Marown A 11

Marown welcomed Kevin Druggan back for his first competitive match in four years and he certainly showed he has lost none of his class.  Playing with junior Adam Colley they narrowly lost the first game 20/22 to David Buck and Kevin Harding who did well to play with bruised ribs before getting into their rhythm to win the next two games 21/12 21/18.  At second womens Sharon Kelly and Janet Sayle of Marown edged the first game 23/21 against Margaret Daughen and Charlotte Dougherty who fought back well to take the next two games 21/19 21/10. First men’s went Vikings way with a 21/18 21/15 win for Matthew Nicholson and Steve Allen over Danny O'Hare and Jason Chatwood.  First womens was a battle with Marown’s Olivia Avery and Kath Kermode winning the first game 21/15 before Emma Nicholson and Sam Irvine evened the match 21/15 the third game was a close one with the Marown pairing winning 21/18.  In contrast the mixed were all won in straight games with wins for Marown's Colley and Kelly, Druggan and Sayle and O'Hare and Avery and for Vikings Allen and Emma  Nicholson to leave the final score a 11-8 win for Marown. An injury struck Fencibles team were unable to stop the charge of Castletown/Abbey who are still yet to drop a point in men's league 2. Acting captain Nick Ardern and Ben Moore of Fencncibles in the final game of the evening against Fingal and Baillie Watterson, fought back after a first end loss 21/7 to win the second 21/18 and take the only points of the evening away from Castletown/Abbey. The experienced Castletown Abbey players had little difficulty in establishing and maintaining a lead in most matches. The most convincing of wins came as Damian Peter and Chris Gregory of Castletown/Abbey sailed past Mark Quayle and Ben Swindlehurst 21/13 21/14, however there were also close matches. Fencibles' Ardern and Quayle were unlucky to be beaten 21/20 by Baillie Watterson and Peter in the tightest of ends. The result leaves both teams clear at either end of the league table halfway through the season. Castletown/Abbey continue to push for promotion while struggling at the bottom of league two, having not won a point for two years, a second consecutive relegation is a real concern for Fencibles.  BW
