A new slogan for Team Isle of Man has been chosen following a competition held by Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association.
The new slogan – Island team with a global dream – was created by Brian Kelly from Onchan, and received more than 200 votes.
Runner-up Matthew Cooil was a close second with his slogan entry - Manx, motivated and going for gold!!! - receiving 181 votes.
More than 50 Island-residents entered a slogan into the competition, which were then shortlisted by IOM CGA officials. The final six slogans were open to a public vote via a Facebook poll, where almost 500 people voted for their favourite.
Basil Bielich, Isle of Man CGA President, said: ‘We were delighted with the number of entries for the competition and found it very difficult to whittle it down to just six. I think it proves just how much the Isle of Man is behind the team, which is just what they need!
‘The whole of IOM CGA is in agreement that the winning slogan is fantastic, and perfectly illustrates the vision of the 33 athletes who will represent our Island in the Games.’
Brian received a Fitbit Blaze in recognition of his winning slogan.
Brian said: ‘I am so pleased to win the slogan competition as there were some fantastic entries. I am 100% behind Team Isle of Man and will be keeping up with how they are getting along at the Gold Coast, and wish them the very best of luck!’
The team of Isle of Man athletes, coaches and managers will fly out to Australia from Monday 19th March, where they will have a week of acclimatisation in the Sunshine Coast before moving to the athletes’ village in Gold Coast.
