Windfarm Network Model Tender "Suspended"

Fri, 20 Oct 2023

A tender exercise for a key part of the Earystane wind farm project has been 'suspended'.

The Manx Utilities Authority advertised a 'Quick Quote' for a firm to provide 'network modelling' on how a new 20 megawatt wind farm would connect in to and the impact on, the Authority's 33kV distribution grid.

This morning this tender was marked as 'suspended' on the Government tendering portal.

It comes after Authority Chairman Tim Crookall MHK suffered an angry backlash in Tynwald earlier this week over the £40 million proposed scheme.

A spokesperson for the Authority told Energy FM that the Director in charge of electrcity had requested "a review to see if this work could be carried out internally" (by MUA), but they had now concluded that the tender will be re-opened and extended by a further week.

More Information: The Quick Quote Tender exercise asked the following:

Manx Utilities invites expressions of interest from suitably experienced and capable consultants to provide detailed network analysis for carrying out modelling for the operation of a 20MW windfarm connecting into the existing 33 kV transmission network. The transmission network is directly connected into the GB distribution network via a 60MW HVAC interconnector.
