Manx students could be in with a chance of going to NASA Johnson Space Center

Thu, 19 Oct 2023

Isle of Man students are being invited to form teams and enter the 2023-24 Conrad Challenge, with the chance of landing a trip to the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The annual competition is open to students aged 13-18 around the globe. The teams can enter one of four categories – Aerospace & Aviation, Cyber-Technology & Security, Energy & Environment and Health & Nutrition.

Each year the ManSat Group, which recently rebranded as River Advisers, sponsors Isle of Man teams by covering their entry fees to the Conrad Challenge, along with travel costs should a team reach the final, which takes place at the Johnson Space Center.

Teams have until November 3 to assemble their crew of between two and five members, and enter the Challenge by completing the ‘activation stage’.

Jennifer Stone, Chief Technical Officer at River Advisers, said: “The Conrad Challenge is an inspiring competition that provides budding entrepreneurs with an opportunity to apply their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills to potentially develop the products and solutions of tomorrow. Our teams have had much success in reaching the latter stages of previous Challenges and we wish this year’s entrants the best of luck as they bid to continue Manx success in the competition.”
