Two local food businesses announce closure

Wed, 27 Sep 2023

Morgan’s Pies Ltd have announced its closure following an unsuccessful sale of its wholesale bakery.

The company took to social media to say it is now looking to lease its two units, including equipment, on South Quay Industrial Estate for £40,000.

The units are fully equipped for any kind of food production, commercial kitchen or bakery.

Earlier in the summer the award winning local business announced it was up for sale due to ‘personal reasons’.

Meanwhile in the west of the Island another food business have felt the pinch of the current economic climate and will be shutting its doors.

Moore’s Smokehouse 1882, which is arguably the ‘most iconic food production building on the Isle of Man’ will be closing down.

The business that has been ran by the Grill Pit Ltd will have its last day of trading on October 1.

This coming weekend (September 30 and October 1) it will be holding a closing down sale.

On social media the company said: “We are raising cash to clear the final debts to ensure our fantastic local food producers and wholesale companies are made whole.”
