MUA consultants are responsible for camera at Earystane

Mon, 11 Sep 2023

The Manx Utility Authority (MUA) say its consultants are responsible for the cameras and the installation process.

This follows reports of cameras without signage being set up at the potential wind farm site at Earystane.

The motion activated CCTV (wildlife) camera was not functional and would only become so once appropriate signage is put in place, according to the MUA.

It added that: “No power/batteries had been installed and there was absolutely no capturing of (or facility to capture) any images or biometric data.

“The non-operational camera was in situ for approx.4-5hrs and was removed later the same evening.”

The consultants and MUA plan to reinstall the camera for “prevention and detection of a crime”, and there will then be clear signage to identify CCTV is operational.

The MUA “gives assurances” that no unlawful capture has taken place.
