Tue, 04 Jul 2023

Jade Tree Limited has welcomed the decision of the recent planning appeal, to approve proposals to develop the former Cunningham’s Camp site in Douglas into their Campus headquarters.

The proposals detail plans for a unique development which will sustainably regenerate a long-established brownfield site into accommodation, commercial and recreational space.

John Lee, Director of Jade Tree Limited, commented:‘The bespoke and innovative design of the Campus is part of our vision to invest in our staff and demonstrates our long-term commitment to the Isle of Man. The Campus will offer a unique and attractive working environment and recreational space to inspire and promote productivity.

‘The mixed-use development will serve as a place where our employees can live, work and thrive in an attractive and enjoyable setting. The Campus will help us continue to attract and retain talented people, contribute to the sustainable growth and success of our business, as well as generating significant contributions to the Isle of Man’s economy.

‘We extend our thanks to the professional team of designers and consultants for their proficiency and expertise in bringing forward plans for this prestigious development. We are also grateful to Digital Isle of Man, the Department for Enterprise and wider Government divisions for their continued support of the scheme.

‘This approval realises a significant project milestone which allows our plans for substantial investment in the Isle of Man to continue, and we look forward to commencing construction work imminently, starting with the accommodation provisions, in compliance with discharge of applicable conditions and statutory approvals.’

The proposals aim to improve and enhance the existing woodland setting and ecology whilst creating an attractive green open space for public amenity, by utilising an environmentally conscious design approach inclusive of renewable technologies for on-site power generation and optimisation of the site’s unique location for thermal performance and visual comfort.

Tim Johnston MHK, Minister for Enterprise, commented: ‘The Jade Tree proposals represent a landmark development in the centre of Douglas, reimagining a site which has been derelict and unused for well over 50 years and turning it into a vibrant campus, not only improving the urban landscape, but also contributing real economic benefit for the Isle of Man.

‘The Department for Enterprise is committed to supporting and providing the right conditions for the development, diversification, growth and opportunity for the Island’s economy, and the Jade Tree development embodies each and every one of these ambitions.

‘I would like to thank Jade Tree Limited for choosing the Isle of Man for this important development, and look forward to seeing this progress over the coming weeks, months and years as they transform this site into a key commercial campus and continue to grow their workforce here on the Island.’
