Visitor fined for riding through Area of Special Scientific Interest

Off-road motorcycle riders on the hunt for new place to watch the TT races have been warned to stick to designated tracks to protect wildlife, habitat and livestock.

It comes after a visitor was found riding illegally through an upland Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI), known as the Central Hills, last week.

The man was issued with a £60 fine by police after a farmer tipped off DEFA rangers.

While motorbikes can be used on greenlanes and greenway roads, riders are not allowed to venture off those tracks.

Clare Barber MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture said: “While I understand the temptation to find a new spot to watch the bikes we urge riders to be responsible
