Douglas Borough Council is seeking £10,000 in sponsorship for its annual Christmas light event.

If the event was to go ahead as it did in 2020 and 2021 with six smaller events throughout the town centre, the council will have to find a sponsor or apply for a grant.

The council has approved, in principle, to use some £10,000 from its General Revenue Reserves to cover the cost of the event if it cannot get sponsorship or a grant.

Over the past two years the council had been allocated grant funding for the event to cover the cost of the event.

The light switch on event marks the beginning of late night shopping in the town centre.
