What if you don't get the exam results you expected?

Thu, 18 Aug 2022

University College Isle of Man (UCM) is reassuring students that there are plenty of options and pathways available for those who either exceed or fall short of predicted grades.

Students from across the Island have been collecting A-Level results today.

GCSE results will be released on 25th August.

UCM is encouraging applicants who have applied to a course at UCM to upload their results to their learner portal as soon as possible, regardless of whether they have achieved better or worse than expected.

Those who haven’t met the requirement of their chosen programme are encouraged to email applications@ucm.ac.im when uploading, so the admissions team can support and guide them appropriately. UCM’s Student Services team is also at hand to provide additional support for students at this stressful time.

(Mrs) Jesamine Kelly, Principal at UCM, said: ‘We understand how nerve-wracking this time of year is for young people and whether they don’t get the grades they were hoping for so are worried they won’t meet course requirements or if they’ve exceeded the expectations and want to upgrade to a higher level of course, we want to reassure applicants that we are here for them. We are committed to supporting all Manx students to achieve the future they deserve.’

Students who were anticipating leaving the Island to study a degree but have either changed their mind or haven’t got the results they anticipated are also being encouraged to consider degrees and degree-level qualifications at UCM.

(Miss) Gail Corrin, Higher Education Manager at UCM, added: ‘We understand that lots of people on the Island are worried about money, and for many families it might be a challenging time to send their young people to the UK to Uni. Studying a degree on-Island is a fantastic was to get a high-level of education without the associated costs of studying away from home.’
