Douglas Borough Council has announced the rate for the coming year at 468 pence in the pound.

It’s a change which it says needs to be viewed against a backdrop of rising inflation and costs beyond its control.

The rate is an increase of 3.8 per cent – that’s 17 pence more than last year when, in the midst of the pandemic, the council announced a 1.6 per cent increase.

For those still unsure of what the rise in rates will mean in practical terms, council advises that for a typical three-bedroom house the new rate will be £543 per year, which equates to £10.44 per week; meaning an increase of 38p per week.
