Lifeboat crew escort motor sailor into port

Port St Mary RNLI were launched on Saturday afternoon following a VHF Radio call to Belfast Coastguard from a 24 foot motor sailor which required assistance.

The call was made after the motor sailor had experienced wind over tide conditions which created some large waves off the coast of Langness, and as a result the vessel was severely rocked from side to side.

Port St Mary RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat Gough Ritchie II launched at 3.45pm under the command of Coxswain Morgan Guy, in a force 3 west-southwesterly and slight seas, and proceeded to the reported position of the casualty.

Having established that the 2 crew on board the vessel had not received any injuries, an assessment of the situation was undertaken and it was agreed that the casualty be escorted back to Port St Mary, as the falling tide would not allow access to Castletown.

The casualty made port without incident under the supervision of the lifeboat crew, who assisted in making a secure berth on the breakwater.
