Arts Aid announces 2021 scholarship recipients

Arts Aid has announced its 2021 scholarship awards.

Now in its fourth year, the charity has made awards to nine exceptionally talented Isle of Man students in the arts.

Seven of the recipients will be attending arts education programmes at some of Britain’s most prestigious arts colleges, while two are completing their final year at high school.

From BTEC diplomas and A-levels to Bachelor’s degree and Level-6 diplomas the courses range from dance and drama to fine art.

Christian Cooper begins his second year of a BA in musical theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London. Amy Convery embarks on a 3-Year Diploma in musical theatre at Laine Theatre Arts (Epsom) while Alicia Schofield progresses to the second year of her Diploma in dance at SLP College (Leeds) and Alexandra Slater is well advanced in her Diploma course at the London School of Musical Theatre.  International award-winning pianist Annabel King will be completing her A-Levels at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, Joshua Morrison begins a degree course at Rambert (London) and Gracel Delos Santos is taking a Foundation Course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.  This year awards have also been made to Ballakermeen High School sixth formers, Alicia Kewley and Paulina Kudzydlow, to assist them in their fine arts degree applications. 

The directors of Arts Aid are very grateful to their growing number of corporate, charity and individual sponsors.  These include ILS World, Isle of Man Advertising, Ramsey Crookall and Zedra, together with the trustees of the WTC Brien, the Elizabeth Clucas and the J R Moore Trusts, as well as Shane Magee.

David Wertheim, chairman, said: “Once again Arts Aid has been immensely fortunate to receive applications from an outstanding group of highly talented and ambitious young Isle of Man arts students. The directors are very pleased to be able to help them achieve their goals. The last eighteen months have been extremely challenging for everyone as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, but especially so for those in or aspiring to careers in the arts.  Our award recipients remain undaunted and we wish them every success both in their forthcoming studies and beyond when they come to make their way in the creative arts world.”
