Special service to mark Ellan Vannin tragedy

Today marks the anniversary of one of the worst shipping tragedies in Manx history.

The SS Ellan Vannin foundered in the River Mersey after setting sail from Ramsey on 3 December 1909.

None of the 14 passengers and 21 crew aboard the vessel survived.

A special service is taking place on West Quay in Ramsey from 6.30pm this evening.

Chairman of Ramsey Commissioners Andy Cowie says remembering the disaster is important to the community:
