Quayside's pedestrian-friendly trial begins today

Fri, 21 Aug 2020

A trial to ban motorists from a section of North Quay in Douglas, and encourage more people to the area, comes into effect later today.

The temporary closure will be in place from 5.30pm this evening to 11pm, and will run every day for the next six weeks.

Barriers will be out at Queens Street, Ridgeway Street and at the bottom of Market Hill to pedestrianise the area.

The scheme is being led by the government which hopes to boost footfall and support businesses.

Vehicles will also be prohibited from using Chapel Row, which runs behind the Manx Legion Club.

Ridgeway Street will become two-way during the closure period but remains a one-way road throughout the day.

Disabled parking which is ordinarily available on North Quay, will be relocated outside the former Newson’s Warehouse.

The pedestrianisation trial will run until Wednesday, 30 September.
