Police issue reminder to follow quarantine rules

Fri, 14 Aug 2020

Police are reminding people to adhere to self-isolation rules after a man was prosecuted for breaching them.

Sixty-four-year-old Douglas man Paul Stephen Dowd failed to follow the 14-day quarantine rule upon his return to the Island – going shopping and also spending an evening in a pub.

He’s been sentenced to six-weeks immediate custody.

The Isle of Man Government announced a move to level four of its five-stage border re-opening policy on 20 July, meaning residents can leave the Island and return as long as they spend two weeks in self-isolation when they come back.

Dowd pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the rules after telling police the reason he flouted them was because he was ‘bored’.

Police are asking anyone who has concerns about returning residents breaching Covid rules to contact them.
