The decision to lease the disused beach huts in Laxey to a promenade cafe, will be discussed at a public meeting next month.

An agreement between Garff Commissioners and the Shed to rent the vacant changing cubicles on the seafront was reached earlier this year.

However, it’s understood a number of residents were unhappy with the tender process.

As a result, the Captain of the Parish of Lonan has announced a requisition meeting which will be held on Friday 3 July.

According to Captain Stephen Carter, it is intended ‘to examine the actions’ of the commissioners.

The local authority says it ‘welcomes this further opportunity to reiterate the reasons for the decision’.

Two expressions of interest were considered, however the proposal from the Shed was deemed ‘best value’ for the ratepayer.

The public meeting will begin at 7.00 pm at the Laxey Working Men’s Institute.
