Flybe website stops working as company set to go into administration

Wed, 04 Mar 2020

The website for Flybe - one of Britain's biggest airlines - has stopped working as the company is expected to go into administration.

The website shows an error message, which says the link is "no longer live".

Flybe planes at airports including Edinburgh were not being refuelled this evening, and engineers were being laid off, according to the Press Association.

Speaking earlier, Mike Clancy, general secretary of the Prospect union, said it would be a "devastating blow" if the company collapsed, adding: "The airline provides important connections to and from parts of the UK where other viable options often don't exist."

Flybe employs around 2,000 people and is the only airline that serves some of the UK's regional airports.

The company had made a renewed plea for ministers to provide emergency financial support.

The company's situation was made worse by coronavirus, which prompted a "collapse" in bookings, one insider said.
