Horses clear of strangles in time for 2020

Thu, 02 Jan 2020

Horses on the Island have been confirmed as clear from strangles following swabs of 10 out of 11 horses showing clear.

Equestrian Isle of Man announced on New Year's Eve via social media that the horse which caught the infection first and spread to other horses, has had mixed results.

They said that although the mare isn't infectious at the moment, she is being isolated until she's able to receive an endoscopy and washouts to remove bacteria.

Five other horses on the same site have also been isolated successfully, displaying no signs of poor health and will have blood tests to confirm they're all clear.

Equestrian IOM said the lockdown has been lifted and are ready to ride horses into 2020 clean and healthy.
