Police seeking witnesses to security staff assault on male

Sat, 21 Dec 2019

Police are seeking witnesses to an incident that occurred outside 1886 on Regent Street in Douglas last night.

The incident occurred between a member of security staff working on the door of the above premises and a male who was attempting to re-enter the premises.

It resulted in the male being hospitalised overnight for a head injury.

Police said they have been able to speak with him and thankfully at this stage it is thought he will make a full recovery.

A spokesperson said: "We are working closely with the licensed premises to ensure this matter is investigated thoroughly and doesn't happen again.

"The security staff member was arrested on suspicion of assault and enquiries are ongoing into investigating exactly what happened. He has been interviewed and bailed pending further enquiries, one of which is to allow time for witnesses to come forward and provide formal accounts to Police.

"We would kindly ask members of the public refrain from speculating on social media or providing opinions on the actions of those involved. Not only can this have a detrimental effect on the investigation and any future prosecution by way of a fair trial but also we would ask you consider the feelings of all involved."

If anyone witnessed this incident, please contact Police Headquarters on 631212.
