Essential works in Laxey this week to close A2 Ramsey Road

Mon, 18 Nov 2019

Essential work to remove trees in Laxey will lead to the closure of the A2 Ramsey Road for five days later this week.

Closures will be in place from 9am until 4.30pm, between 21st and 25th November.

Work is being carried out as the grass bank next to the Green’s Garage site has become unstable following recent heavy rainfall, causing one mature tree to fall and block the carriageway on 12th November.

A full assessment of the area indicates that several more trees must be removed.

Felling will be undertaken under emergency powers available to the Department of Infrastructure, following consultation with the Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture.

The work will be completed in partnership with Manx Utilities due to the proximity of overhead electric cables.

A traffic diversion will be in place on Minorca Hill and Old Laxey Hill, where parking will be suspended 8am to 4.30pm to reduce congestion.

Motorists are reminded that Glen Road remains closed while work takes place following the flooding on 1st October, and to drive with caution and consider using alternative routes.

Access will be maintained for residents whose properties are accessed by the private lane within the closure zone, between Green’s Garage and Ard Reayrt.

Outside working hours, the A2 Ramsey Road will open as a single carriageway controlled by temporary traffic lights.

The closure has been planned in full consultation with the local commissioners and Laxey School, and businesses in the area remain open as normal.
