Remembrance Sunday to be recognised across Island

Towns and parishes across the Island will mark Remembrance Sunday tomorrow to pay tribute to all those from the Island involved in the First and Second World War, and all other conflicts.

In Douglas, a parade will form at Duke Street at 9.15am and move off at 9.30am from Duke Street through Strand Street, Castle Street, Marina Road, St Thomas’ Walk, Market Street and Church Road Marina to St Thomas’ Church where, on arrival, the parade will file through the Finch Road entrance.

The church service will commence at 10.00am, ending at 10.40am to allow time for those present to parade to the War Memorial to observe the two minutes’ silence at 11am, which will be followed by the laying of wreaths.

The final parade will then form on the Promenade roadway alongside the War Memorial and, after the salute is taken opposite the Gaiety Theatre by His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Jonathan Joughin JP, the parade will proceed into Marina Road and retrace the route to Market Hill.

In the event of adverse weather any or all of the parades may be abandoned, but the observances of the two minutes silence will go ahead.
