10th anniversary of Manx registered aircraft to be celebrated in North
Thu, 17 Oct 2019
A local address finding software and computer systems company are celebrating the anniversary of a Manx-registered aircraft with a return to the Island.
AFD Software Ltd donated a Kodiak Bush Aircraft to MAF to serve in Kalimantan in 2009, with an official open day at Andreas Airfield on October 17th 2009.
The new Kodiak aircraft visited the Island on its journey from the manufacturers in the USA to Asia.
It's since carried out thousands of flights in East Kalimantan, Borneo, providing a vital lifeline to many villages where overland travel is all but impossible, and saving many lives when accidents and medical emergencies have occurred.
In 2018 the aircraft was amongst the earliest aid arrivals when Palu in Sulawesi was hit by a Tsunami.
To commemorate 10 years of service, AFD is holding a free entry weekend of celebration from 18th - 20th October at the Mountain View Innovation Centre, just outside Ramsey, with refreshments provided.
Two flight simulators, a decommissioned MAF Plane and extensive resources and information will be available to the public.
David Dorricott from AFD spoke to Energy FM about how the company feels on its return:
