Tynwald approves rates modernisation

A modernised rates system plan has been approved by Tynwald.

 

Minister for Policy and Reform Chris Thomas MHK's proposal for a renewed system was accepted by Tynwald Parliament yesterday, with an amendment from Lawrie Hooper MHK rejected.

 

In his amendment document, Minister Thomas outlines the ways in which houses which are smaller should pay less rates, with a set amount to be paid by every home per square metre.

 

A new rates system would come into effect from 2022.
