A Samaritans volunteer, who is attempting to walk to all 201 branches of the charity in the UK and Ireland, has completed his Isle of Man leg.

David Matthews, who lives on the west coast of Scotland, aims to complete a listening shift in every branch he reaches.

He is already over 1,500 miles into his 6,000-mile journey – titled the ‘Listening Walk’ – which will take two years to complete.

His journey began back in April in Doncaster, where he volunteered for 11 years before moving to Scotland.

He hopes to raise £100,000 in sponsorship and recruit 1,000 new volunteers for the charity.

Samaritans offers confidential judgement-free emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The number is 116 123 and it is free to call. Alternatively, you can email jo@samaritans.org.

David said that people can follow his journey online:
