TheatreFest '19 begins with double bill of original Manx theatre

A weekend of original theatre created on the Island will be staged from tomorrow night as part of TheatreFest '19.

 

The annual theatrical festival is sponsored by the Arts Council every year and organised by local production company, Stage Door Entertainment.

 

The first double bill is being held tomorrow at The Studio Theatre, Ballakermeen High School in Douglas from 7pm.

 

2018's playwriting competition winner, local Michael Bonner, will have his supernatural play 'Purga Tree' performed, followed by Manx theatre director John Young's devised piece.

 

Mike spent three months writing his play, based on the notions of an afterlife, and is excited to see his work performed for the first time:

 

John's devised project has a cast of 12, some of whom have never performed in theatre before. He says he has only had this week to rehearse and is proud of the cast's ability to create their own unique and emotive piece:
