Elderly among those trapped in Laxey due to severe flooding

Laxey Village is currently closed and police are saying that they are dealing with significant issues with flooding in Laxey.

Police have confirmed people have been left trapped in at least three houses. A rescue operation involving the fire service and coastguard is underway.

A group of elderly residents have been rescued from a property by a water rescue team.

Glen Road between the upper and lower bridges has flooded severely. Several vehicles have washed away. 

The church hall at the rear of Laxey Co-Op has been opened for people to shelter.

The advice for residents in Laxey is to stay indoors and to go up stairs if water levels are rising.

A helicopter is now also on standby.

All 999 services are in attendance. If you are safe in your house please stay in. If you need to please go upstairs and monitor media.

Laxey School and the Dhoon School are closed until midday.

Police advise that if you are in the Laxey and trapped please go up stairs in your house and await further instructions.
