The Department of Infrastructure has unveiled a raft of proposals for road improvements in Kirk Michael.

 

Appearing before villagers in a packed civic centre at a meeting last night (26 Sep), officers presented a number of ideas to improve safety – whilst admitting current traffic speeds are ‘scary’.

 

The proposed measures included buffer zones, new pedestrian crossings, pavements  improvements, and removable surface features to slow traffic.

 

Director of Highways Geoff Robinson apologised that changes hadn’t  been made sooner, despite residents’ requests, and said it’s likely improvements will be delivered next year.

 

“We’ve let you down, we haven’t fulfilled our promises, but we’re now trying to put that right’.

 

Those in the village are now being asked to come and view the plans, which will be available at Michael Commissioners’ office and leave their comments.

 

The local authority will then relay this community feedback to the department.
