Officer headbutted and spat on during arrest

A police officer has been headbutted and spat on during an arrest this lunchtime.

Plain clothes officers had been speaking to a wanted man on Prospect Terrace.

The man was seen attempting to swallow a number of items during the incident. Officers attempted to restrain the male and the retrieve the items.

A force spokesperson said: "We can confirm one officer was head butted and spat on during the arrest."

It's understood a passer-by intervened to help police during the incident.
