Horse strangles outbreak under control says DEFA

The Department of Environment Food and Agriculture are reassuring residents that the horse strangles outbreak is under control.

News of the infection spread via a social media post shared by a local riding club last week, with numerous equestrian events being cancelled to protect horses.

Strangles is also known as equine distemper, a contagious infection which makes swallowing and breathing uncomfortable.

DEFA member Martyn Perkins MHK says the situation is being watched closely by the Department:
