The Office of Fair Trading has been made aware of a telephone scam, with callers alleging to be from an insurance company representing the UK government.
Scammers claim that an amount is owed to the victim because their property had been wrongly banded, presumably for taxation or insurance purposes, and attempts to get the victim’s bank details.
The OFT advises members of the public to put the phone down, and not to engage with the caller.
Further information and advice on ‘Scams’ in general can be found on the OFT’s website https://www.gov.im/oft or by calling the Office on 686500.
