Traders in Castletown will have to wait until the end of September to find out if the entire Market Square will be open for parking.

Last night commissioners chose to restore four spaces by Barclay’s Bank until the end of this month, but a layout for the winter period hasn't been agreed.

Castletown Commissioners published the following quote on their Facebook page this afternoon: 'Following feedback from traders and a forecast for a deterioration in the weather with high winds over the next few days, a decision has been made to make additional parking available in the Market Square with effect from this afternoon.'

A reduced area of public space will be retained in the hope that we may yet see an Indian Summer.

Previously the board agreed to meet traders ‘halfway’ in April, by leaving 50 per cent of the parking by the George Hotel.

Nearby businesses have asked that all spaces be reintroduced in the colder months.

Partial closure of the square expires on 30 September, by which time the commissioners will have met again to discuss the issue.
