A group bidding to create glamping facilities at Groudle Glen says it wants the development to showcase ‘the ‘quintessential charm of the Island’.

 

Anchard Leisure has applied to create twenty timber cabins in a field by Ballamenagh Road, a site which is not zoned for development and an area of ‘high-landscape value’.

 

The proposals form part of a £750,000 project, and also include a welcome office, and 22 on-site parking spaces.

 

The cabins feature timber decking, communal seating areas with barbecue facilities, and are linked with boardwalks lit by directional bollard lights.

 

To minimise the visual impact of the glamping site, each unit is to be ‘integrated into the landscape’ with earth embankments and screen tree planting.

 

The applicant has also requested a change of use for the land, from agricultural to tourist.

 

Richard Dangerfield is a partner in Anchard Leisure, along with UK-based developer Ian Robinson.

 

He says pending planning approval, it’s hoped work on the project will begin next year.
