A counter has been installed on Queen's Promenade in Douglas to record the number of people using the route.
Data will be logged and shown on a digital screen for the public to view.
Officials from the Department of Infrastructure say the counter will enable them to know how many people are using the walkway and, in turn, make informed and better decisions about where to target resources.
The display screen is being used to provide other information, such as updates and information on the promenade refurbishment scheme.
