Fishermen angry about reduction in queenie quotas
Mon, 01 Jul 2019
As the queenie fishing season begins today, local fishermen say they’re angry at restrictions being placed on what they can catch.
The can only catch 40% less than they did last year.
The new measures have been brought in by the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture to allow stocks to recover.
But Department Minister Geoffrey Boot says the move is essential as queenie stocks are at their lowest levels since 1993.
