Tynwald backs creation of climate change team

The establishment of an independent climate emergency transformation team has won the backing of Tynwald.

An amendment by North Douglas member Ralph Peake has been unanimously approved after a debate lasting over two hours.

Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper wanted to set a target date of 2035 for the Island to become net carbon neutral – but it failed to get enough support with 10 votes for and 23 against.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle last month declared a climate change emergency.
