TV Licences for over 75s to be reviewed

Tue, 11 Jun 2019

The Manx government says Treasury will review exisiting policies regarding free TV licences for those aged 75 and over.

Yesterday, the BBC announced free licences for those aged over 75 in the UK would be scrapped from June next year.

A statement from the government said: "The Treasury will now be reviewing existing policies around free TV licences for those aged 75 and over to secure a way forward for pensioners resident here."

"In the meantime, those individuals in receipt of a free TV Licence do not need to contact the Treasury as their licences remain valid."

The BBC's director-general Tony Hall says the move was "not an easy decision".
