Update given on Heritage Trail

Sat, 18 May 2019

The Department of Infrastructure has issued an update regarding the Heritage Trail.

The Heritage Trail between Peel and Crosby will open outside working hours.

Site working hours are 8am-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am-2pm on Saturday.

Sections are currently under the following restrictions:

  • Peel to Glenfaba Bridge: Open
  • Glenfaba Bridge to Station Road, St John’s: Closed during working hours.
  • St John’s, Station Road to Coolingel Bridge, Crosby: Open
  • Coolingel Bridge, Crosby, to Memorial Playing Fields, Crosby: Closed during working hours.

The Department of Infrastructure and contractor NK Construction request that the public respect the site and the workers undertaking the improvements of the trail. Sections of the route are closed for safety reasons while the work takes place and entering a closed highway is an offence and liable to prosecution.

The contractor has reported that people have entered closed sections of the track on a number of occasions, resulting in near misses with construction plant and workers being subjected to abuse. Closure signs have been vandalised and discarded, and pegs marking areas of sensitive / protected habitat have also been removed.

Those wishing to use the trail outside of work hours should do so in a safe manner and respect the efforts that are being made to improve the route for everybody.

Work will continue during Practice Week and the route will open completely for TT Week from Friday 31 May.
