People who claim benefits may have to work more hours to qualify for the employed person's allowance – that’s if Tynwald gives the go-ahead to changes at this month’s sitting.
Approval is being sought to make changes to the rules for the allowance and to income support for lone parents.
It's understood that around two-thirds of people who claim it are single parents, and about a third are couples who have at least one child.
At the moment single parents must work at least 16 hours a week to be eligible..
