Plans lodged to make Villiers Square 'suitable for public events'
Sat, 20 Apr 2019
Plans have been lodged by the owners of the Villiers site in Douglas to improve the appearance of the dilapidated area.
The Tevir Group, which purchased the building and associated land last year, wants to ‘enhance’ the space and make it suitable for events.
Bench repairs, new group seating areas, planting around borders to create a green boundary to the square and other changes have all been mooted.
The plans also include the ‘over cladding’ of existing hoardings with black timber boards and the cleaning of paving stones.
Tevir Group proposes the ‘square’ could then be used for public occasions, such as an upcoming charity event organised by the Hospice.
A separate but linked application has also been lodged for display boards to be attached to existing hoardings, advertising both the charity event, and the TT races.
The Villiers site was purchased by Tevir Group last year, after it acquired the Castle Mona, and the former Zurich headquarters on Athol Street.
