Peel commissioners have unanimously voted to oppose plans by Empire Garage to build apartments and homes at three sites in the town.
The decision has been made at a local authority meeting.
It comes following a separate residents meeting, where around 100 people gathered at the Masonic Hall to voice a number of concerns about the scale and the size of what’s proposed.
Empire Garage wants to build a total of 26 flats and five town houses at sites on Marine Parade, Stanley Road and Cross Street, and demolish the existing showrooms, garage and other buildings.
The commissioners opposed the application on a number of grounds, including the height and density of the proposed blocks, and over-intensive use of the sites.
