Of all the successful planning appeals in the last year, only two were lodged by those granted ‘interested party status’.

 

It’s been revealed via a Freedom of Information request that 67 appeals were determined by Environment Food and Agriculture Minister Geoffrey Boot over the last twelve months (February 2018-2019).

 

Twenty-one of these were successful, and only two came from third parties.

 

German Parish Commissioners objected to the creation of temporary access for construction vehicles to land off of Station Road in St Johns.

 

Heron and Brearley Ltd appealed against an application made by the Department of Infrastructure for the creation of temporary stables for tram horses on part of the Summerland site.

 

Both appeals were determined before the introduction of a new policy by Mr Boot’s department in July 2018, which placed limits on who could be granted ‘interested party status’.

 

He said some used their third party rights of appeal to ‘delay applications and stifle economic development’.
