British PM delays vote on financial transparency rules

Mon, 04 Mar 2019

The UK government has pulled a parliamentary debate that could have forced the Isle of Man to make company ownership information public.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle has today been at Westminister along with the Chief Ministers of Jersey and Guernsey.

Tory MPs want to force public registers of beneficial ownership on the Crown Dependencies. It was due to be discussed this afternoon.

More than 50 MPs supported the amendment to the Financial Services Bill - and have strongly criticised the debate not going ahead.

Labour's Jonathan Reynolds claims it's been 'nakedly been pulled to prevent the British government being defeated'.

The UK government are demanding that the crown dependencies introduce public registers by the end of next year.
