Isle of Man Youth Trials Club Award Young Riders’ Sporting Excellence

Wed, 13 Feb 2019

On Saturday, 9th February, over 75 young motorbike trials riders were presented with awards in recognition of the performance for the Championship season which ended in November. The presentation, organised by Isle of Man Youth Trials Club, saw riders take the top prize across the following classes: A Class – Owen Chestnut; B Class – Bobby Moyer; C Class – Summer Peters; D Class – Jacob Wilson; and E Class – Tallulah Wilson.

Andrew Cubbon, Club Chairman, commented: “Our annual awards presentation is a celebration of the successes our Club members have enjoyed over the previous season, which runs from February through to November. We have over 100 members split across 5 youth development classes, so it’s inclusive, and designed to give riders the best chance of enjoyment and to develop their own skills. The Awards recognise performance as well as attitude, perseverance and progression”.

Isle of Man Youth Trials Club is sponsored by Tromode-based performance marketing consultancy Bold Consultancy who've developed the Club's brand identity and digital offering. Director Richard Corlett presented riders with their awards at the presentation evening.

Richard commented: "Bold Consultancy is proud to reinvest in our islands top youth talent development programmes and sports clubs. Sports like motorcycle trials which provide discipline, diversity and direction, and push young athletes to excel is very much in line with our approach to take the path less trodden but to perform for our clients by practising proven principles. We're delighted to see the uplift in the sport and the sporting excellence celebrated and look forward to continuing to support the Club with the introduction of the Academy this year."

The 2019 season starts with the Bold Championship Round One at Carnagrie on the 17th February. This year, the Club’s focus is on the Isle of Man Championship, contested over 7 rounds, and a short Summer series running June through to August. The Club will also launch The Academy in 2019, an offshoot of the Club’s core offering, designed to provide promising riders with access to and professional mentorship from top local and national riders including Steve Colley and Josh Brain.

The Academy will host four coaching workshops throughout 2019, monthly practice days and another ‘Try our Sport’ day later in the year where bikes will be available to ride for those without their own.

Motorcycle Trials is open to riders of all ages and children from the age of 4 are made very welcome and whilst the club references youth in its name, young-at-heart adults can also take part in the events, and each year there is a fun Parent & Child Pairs Trial where they can ride together. With the Club’s most senior rider now in his mid-seventies, there are riders of many generations enjoying the sport making it a great parent-child activity for all weathers.

Andrew added: “The Club is open to everyone from complete beginners to experienced riders, to the elite riders who compete Nationally and Internationally, which is a great thing for our club, as novices benefit from the experience of seasoned professionals. Riders must learn to deal with unpleasant weather and difficult conditions, but that provides a practical development opportunity as well as a lot of fun.”
