Police investigating a violent assault on a teenager say those involved will be prosecuted.

The disturbing video which has been circulated on Facebook and Snapchat shows one girl attacking another girl with force - including several punches and kicks.

Officers say the juvenile who carried out the attack and a juvenile who filmed it will both be prosecuted at court.

The victim is said to be recieving support from the police, school and other agencies.

The teens involved attend Ballakermeen High School.

In a statement, headteacher Adrienne Burnett said: "Many of our students, parents and friends will have seen a very disturbing video on social media which shows one of our students being assaulted by another in two, separate out of school locations."

"Thanks to the many supportive members of our school community we were made aware of events very soon after they occurred and have taken immediate action."

"I have imposed the strongest sanction on the perpetrator, which I will further discuss with my governors and officials at the Department of Education, Sport and Culture."
