No nomination papers were received for the vacant seat on the board of Garff Commissioners after the deadline passed last week.
The local authority has advised a new notice of timetable and election for the position on Lonan ward will be issued in January.
Following the resignation of company director Stewart Clague in November, members of the public wrote in to the commissioners’ clerk, requesting an election be held.
This triggered the opening of the period for nominations, however it seems there wasn’t sufficient interest.
Had two candidates come forward to take part in the election, the contest would have been held on New Year’s Eve due to the time frame enshrined in local authority legislation.
Candidates for the local authority election can come from any part of the Island, although it is only those on the electoral register in Lonan ward who can vote should a contest be held.
