Local authority trials youth engagement scheme

Port St Mary Commissioners are giving young people the chance to make their voice heard in local politics.

The local authority is developing an initiative with two southern high schools to have teenage representatives attend its public forums.

Castle Rushen High School and King William’s College will send pupils elected by their peers, to learn more about the commissioners’ work.

They’ll be provided with briefings and papers to prepare them for their involvement in civic life.

It comes after commissioner Laurence Vaughan-Williams pushed for more engagement from the local authority with young people.
