Douglas Borough Council will honour the life and work of a women's suffrage activist with a blue plaque.

Sophia Goulden, the mother of British suffragette movement leader Emmeline Pankhurst, was born in Lonan and owned a home in Douglas, where she and husband lived after they retired.

The Council will unveil a blue plaque at her former home at 9 Strathallan Crescent on September 14th at 1pm.

The plaque will be unveiled by the Mayor after a short ceremony, which the public is invited to attend.
